You have come to the Netherlands from Ukraine as a refugee. Here is all the information you need to work safely and responsibly.

Do you have a job or are you going to work?

Please let us know by sending an email to oekraine@avres.nl with your name, address, BSN number and first business day.

Entitlement to the allowance you receive ceases on the first day of the month in which you start working. The right to assistance for unemployed family members continues to exist

  1. Register with the local council where you are currently living (in a shelter or with a host family)
  2. You will receive a Citizen Service Number from the local council
  3. Open a bank account using this number
  4. When you have a bank account, you can work!
  5. You can register with ‘AV Werkt door’ (avwerktdoor.nl), register directly with an employment agency or an employer. ‘AV Werkt door’ can also put you in touch with an employment agency and employer.
  6. What is an employment agency? This is an agency that connects people looking for (temporary) work with companies offering (temporary) work
  7. Make sure that the employment agency is certified. If you have any doubts, contact ‘AV Werkt door’. We can put you in touch with a certified agency.
  8. Remember that you might only be staying in your current accommodation temporarily.

  10. Make sure that you are paid for the work you do. In the Netherlands, proper arrangements are in place for this. More information (read in Dutch)
